Petersburg Juvenile & Domestic Relations Office Buildout

The Community Bank renovation project, located in Petersburg, Virginia, included the commercial fitout of 5,000 s.f. of commercial space on its first floor. This space had been abandoned and most recently used as bank lobby/teller area and related office space. Highlights of this project include the restoration of the historic storefront at the streetscape, preservation and repair of historic plaster trey ceiling and crown moldings, preservation and reuse of the bank vault as a copy room and restoration of the travertine floors. The Yellow Room conducted client department interviews for programming the space and responded to the agency’s specific needs while preserving the character of the former bank lobby so that the project could maintain its historic tax credit eligibility. The design included offices for 21 staff members, a secure lobby waiting area for the juvenile parole clients, integration of ADA bathrooms, kitchenette, meeting spaces, and new lofted office area which took advantage of the high ceilings and maximized efficiency of the space.
